Walla Walla Wine Weekend
January 20, 2008
We spent the weekend in the south east corner of Washington, visiting
Uncle Mike at his
new home in the
Walla Walla wine region.
Being the good host that he is, he took us on a tour of some of the best
vineyards in the appellation where we were able to sample a plethora of
vinous viniferous varietals, pleasing our palates whilst abusing the
credit card in the name of stocking the wine cellar.
The drive to Walla Walla from
Pullman is one
that neither
of us had done before, and it was nice to see the various
small towns along the way. It is certainly an area to which we would
return so that we could do some further exploration. We took a five mile
detour on this journey near the town of
Dayton
to see what was simply marked as a “Historical Marker.” The marker ended
up being a field in which a Lewis and Clark encampment was “recreated”
with life-sized steel cut outs of people doing what they would have been
doing at camp. It was a bit surreal, but certainly worth the detour.
It was an enjoyable weekend and a fun way to add to our wine collection.
Only another seven official appellations in the state to go!
